I deal with lighting design since more than thirty years now; as an indipendent professional since 1994. About the 90% of my job deals with projects for museums or cultural heritage, both for interior and exterior lighting.
I consider my job as strictly tied to that of the entire design team: I think that light is a very important component of the project, but also that it never should impose itself: it must not become the protagonist of the design and never should be intrusive; it should instead be a tool to enhance and emphasize the architecture and, in the case of museums, the exhibition of the artwork.
In our job we try to combine a creative approach with a complete reliable technical support. We have a considerable technical knowledge; we also have set up in our venue a complete photometric laboratory, where we can test and analyse the luminaires offered by the industry and we can also do some research to develop special products and prototypes.
I also teach lighting design for cultural heritage in the context of a post-graduate master at the European Institute of Design in Florence. I am also member of the committee for the preparation of standards for the lighting of artworks within “UNI”, the italian national body for the drafting of the rules.
