Wires connect, but they also limit both physically and situationally. We’ve all been in the position of finding that a component could be positioned in a more convenient or more effective way but wiring just isn’t in quite the right place. In many environments, putting the right wiring into place is often as expensive as the components that are being connected, with up to 50% of the installed handover cost being driven not by what’s being installed but rather by what is needed to connect it.
In today’s professional lighting environment, we are all bound by similar constraints on projects large and small. Museums and galleries run hundreds of metres of track, often with a spotlight only being used near artwork and not even many of them. Track power distribution is intensely functional, and hard to make “pretty” but equally it does address the challenge of flexibility for as and when exhibits change, or retail seasons shift, the lighting can be adjusted to the new display requirements.
In contrast to small area systems such as the Qi standard, ETI’s ecosystem is hugely scalable, can be designed to extend over hundreds of metres, and power quite significant clients, including professional lighting system and other building management components such as safety and security modules. Data can also be relayed wirelessly over the network, meaning that one platform really can address the demands of the modern built environment. By eliminating visible or accessible components, the platform works in indoor “dry” applications as well as in wet zones where higher IP ratings would be the norm.
